ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 14) - Kamie Jo Massey and Mindy Mendenhall scored 22 points apiece, but hot three-point shooting by Central Washington was too much to overcome in an 82-77 overtime loss to the Wildcats tonight.
UAA (9-13, 4-9 GNAC) shot a season-best 55.1 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line, while CWU (13-9, 7-6) benefited from 11-of-26 shooting from long range.
The Seawolves went up 71-68 with 14 seconds left in regulation when Amber Nasby (14 points, 8 rebounds) hit a jumper on a pass from Whitney Leman. However, Central forward Lindsay Weiss made a three-pointer with five seconds left to send it to the extra session.
UAA never led in overtime, although Leman made a steal and layup with 1:43 remaining to tie it 77-77. The Wildcats closed out the scoring, however, as Angela Jensen (20 points, 8-11 FG) made the game-winning layup on the next possession.
Weiss finished with game-highs of 24 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, while CWU center Laura Wright chipped in 15 points.
The loss overshadowed another impressive night for Massey, who set a UAA record for free throw percentage, making all 14 of her charity attempts. Mendenhall, who shot 10-for-15 from the field Saturday, had held the old mark of 13-for-13.
Nasby was stellar as well, shooting 6 for 10 from the field and equaling her career-high with five assists, playing all 45 minutes.
Senior guard Tanya Nizich equaled her career-high with six rebounds, but shot just 2 of 10.
The Seawolves play three of their last five games at the friendly confines of the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, beginning with Western Washington on Thursday, Feb. 19.
