Men go cold in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS (Feb. 7) - Peter Bullock scored 12 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds, but it wasn't close to enough Saturday as the UAA men's basketball team lost 70-56 to rival Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center.

UAA (15-6, 5-5 GNAC) got 12 points from Mark Drake and 11 apiece from Kemmy Burgess and Aaron Lawrence, while UAF (13-6, 6-4) was led by Brad Oleson's 23 points.

Eleven of the Seawolves' season-high 23 turnovers came on Nanook steals, and they shot just 39.6 percent (19-48) from the field. UAF, led by Oleson's 10-of-15 effort, shot 50.9 percent while committing only nine turnovers.

UAA took a 22-20 lead on a Drake three-pointer with two minutes left in the first half. But things would go downhill quickly for the Seawolves after that. UAF rattled off a 10-0 run to close the half, with a sequence that involved Lawrence's third personal foul, a technical foul call on UAA's bench, and an intentional foul call on Scott Stevens.

The Seawolves scored the first four points of the second half to pull within 30-26, but that was as close as they would get.

Bullock's double-double was his 11th this year and the 45th of his career, one short of Hansi Gnad's school record.
