Spikers win second straight

LACEY, Wash. (Oct. 13) - Chelsey Glines led a balanced offensive attack and posted an impressive 10 blocks Thursday to help the UAA volleyball team to its second straight win, 27-30, 30-28, 30-17, 30-18, over host Saint Martin's at the SMU Pavilion.

The Seawolves (6-12, 3-7 GNAC) began the second half of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference season by posting a season-best attack percentage for the second straight match as well, hitting at a .297 clip. The Saints (0-16, 0-10) were led by Keana Morrisey's 16 kills as they took a game for just the second time this season.

UAA also got double-digit kills from redshirt freshman Brenda Cooper (12) and junior Jasmine Ames (10), while Caitlin Grenier's nine kills on 13 attempts were good for a Seawolf individual season-high .615 attack percentage. Freshman Heather Lyons had eight kills and a team-high 14 digs for UAA.

Glines, a junior transfer from Western Wyoming Community College, continued her hot hitting, finishing with a .375 percentage on the night. Meanwhile, her defense sparked the Seawolf comeback, with her two solos and eight block assists marking the GNAC's best individual blocking performance of the year.

The setting duo of Lindsey Robertson and Stephanie Martinez combined for 49 assists, while libero Cristal Negron tallied 11 digs. Robertson had five and Negron three of the Seawolves' season-high 12 service aces, too.

UAA concludes its second-to-last road trip of the season with a match at league co-leader Seattle University on Saturday (6 p.m. ADT).
