ANCHORAGE (Oct. 22) - The Seawolf volleyball team put together a gritty effort Saturday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, but it wasn't enough to overcome a hot-hitting, nationally ranked Seattle Pacific squad in a 30-22, 30-21, 30-15 loss to the Falcons.
UAA (6-15, 3-10 GNAC) got eight kills on .667 hitting from middle blocker Chelsey Glines, however the Seawolves were held to a .085 team attack percentage and got outblocked 9-3. SPU (17-5, 11-2), ranked 18th in the AVCA top 25 coaches' poll, was led by a combined 25 kills from Rachel Biornstad and Chelsey Myers on its way to a .355 team percentage.
The Seawolves hung tough early in the first two games before the Falcons put some distance on the scoreboard midway through those frames. Biornstad finished with a .650 hitting percentage (13 kills, 0 errors, 20 attempts) and contributed on eight of SPU's nine blocks. Setter Jenna Von Moos sparked the SPU offense with 41 assists.
For the Seawolves, Heather Lyons led the way with 12 digs, while she and Caitlin Grenier tallied seven kills apiece. Setter Stephanie Martinez had 28 assists.
UAA embarks on its final road trip of the 2005 season next week when it travels to Western Oregon and Humboldt State, Oct. 27 and 29.
