Vikings sweep Seawolves in finale

ANCHORAGE (Nov. 12) - The Seawolf volleyball team could never get any momentum going Saturday in its season finale as Western Washington emerged with a 30-21, 30-15, 30-18 victory over the Seawolves at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.


UAA, which was led by Heather Lyons' eight kills and 11 digs, finished 7-19 overall and 4-14 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. WWU (18-9, 13-5) got 16 kills from Jamie Peterson, plus 11 kills and 12 digs from Siri Wuotila to run away with the match.


The Vikings, who stretched their overall win streak against UAA to 11 matches, finished fourth in the GNAC standings.


The Seawolves could get little going from the start Saturday as they were outhit .326 to .032 and outdug 61-50 by the visitors from Bellingham, Wash.


Freshman Caitlin Grenier had six kills and three blocks assists in the losing effort, while junior Chelsey Glines notched five kills and a pair of solo blocks.


WWU libero Courtney Schneider had a match-high 19 digs.
