ORU stops Monmouth for 3rd place

ANCHORAGE (Nov. 26) - Ken Tutt scored 15 points and Oral Roberts used a huge rebounding advantage Saturday to knock off Monmouth, 62-54, for third place in the 2005 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

Center Mickey Michalec sparked the Golden Eagles (2-2) with 10 points and eight assists, while point guard Jonathan Bluitt tallied 13 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting. Monmouth (1-3) got a game-high 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting from forward Corey Hallett, but the rest of the Hawks made just 13 of 32 attempts.

Oral Roberts jumped to a 30-15 lead before Monmouth ended the first half with a 7-0 run, capped by Mike Shipman's three-point heave from midcourt at the buzzer.

ORU worked its lead to 44-28 in the second half before the Hawks, of West Long Branch, N.J., rallied to within 57-52 with just over a minute remaining. Bluitt answered with four free throws at that point, extending the lead and giving the Golden Eagles the third-place gold pan.
