ANCHORAGE (Feb. 17) - Humboldt State forward Jenna Washington tied the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record with 22 rebounds as her Lumberjacks knocked off the Seawolves, 71-55, in women's basketball action Thursday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (8-14, 3-10 GNAC) got 13 points from guard Stephanie Beason and 10 points from forward Amber Nasby in the loss. HSU (9-14, 6-8) was led by senior center Nicole Lynch's 23 points, while Washington finished with 22 points and secured 15 of her rebounds in the second half.
The Seawolves took an early 5-3 lead before HSU's Denisha McCoy nailed a three-pointer four minutes in, and the visitors would hold the advantage throughout. UAA trailed 35-23 at halftime and by 21 with 15:36 to play. The Seawolves went on a 15-4 run to slice the deficit to just 55-48 at the 6:27 mark, but the Lumberjacks answered with the next seven points to secure their fifth win in seven games.
UAA got eight points and eight rebounds from senior center Taylor Long, and seven points and nine rebounds from junior point guard Christa Wilson.
The Seawolves return to their home court again Saturday for a 6 p.m. match-up against Western Oregon.
