ANCHORAGE (Mar. 3) - Christa Wilson scored 20 points and Kelsey Larsen produced another strong effort, but the Seawolves' second-half comeback fell just short Thursday night in a 64-56 women's basketball loss to Central Washington at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (9-17, 4-13 GNAC) also got 10 points from senior center Taylor Long, while CWU (16-10, 9-8) was powered by the interior combo of Alayna Vincent and Laura Wright, who combined for 29 points and 18 rebounds.
The Seawolves trailed 38-22 with two minutes to play in the first half before Larsen converted a put-back bucket and Wilson drained to free throws, cutting the deficit to 12 at the half.
UAA then opened the second half with a 6-0 burst and drew within 47-46 on a three-pointer by Stephanie Beason (9 points, 3-5 3FG) at the 9:22 mark. But CWU's Kaci Pipkin answered with her own three on the next trip down the floor, sparking a 9-0 run.
The Seawolves clawed within 59-56 on Long's layin with 1:29 to go, but they couldn't score again and the Wildcats made five of eight free throws to end it.
Larsen, a 6-0 junior from Mukilteo, Wash., equaled her career-high for the second straight game with 11 rebounds, and came one point shy of her best collegiate performance with seven points. She also played 40 minutes for the second straight game.
Wilson scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half to keep UAA within striking distance. The junior point guard from East Anchorage High went the free throw line 13 times, converting 10. Long was the only other Seawolf in double figures with 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT).
UAA ends the season Saturday when it hosts 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific at the WFSC. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m.
