Drake shines in season-ending loss

MONMOUTH, Ore. (Mar. 5) - Mark Drake scored a team-high 17 points in his last collegiate game, but little else went right for the UAA men's basketball team Saturday night in a season-ending 77-57 loss to Western Oregon at the New P.E. Building.

The Seawolves (11-16, 5-13 GNAC) also got 11 points from Carl Arts, but there was little offensive help after that. Meanwhile, WOU (16-11, 10-8) shot 52 percent from the field and got a combined 45 points from the inside duo of Evan Kieling and Dave Brautigam.

UAA trailed by as many as 11 in the first half before Drake (7-12 FG, 3-6 3FG) caught fire with four straight baskets that cut the deficit to 34-33 with 1:48 remaining. WOU would answer, however, with a 17-2 blitz that spanned both halves, and the host Wolves led by double figures the rest of the way.

James Hartman led UAA with seven rebounds and was one of three Seawolves to account for six points.

Drake, a 6-1 guard from Shelbyville, Ind., finished his 4-year career as UAA's all-time leader in three-pointers made (243) and free throw percentage (.884). His 17 points Saturday also moved him past Chris Hamey for No. 7 on UAA's all-time scoring list with 1,173 points.
