ANCHORAGE (Mar. 5) - Cassie Bro scored a game-high 14 points and Amber Nasby had a solid all-around effort in her final collegiate game as the UAA women's basketball team fell 66-50 to 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Saturday.
UAA (9-18, 4-14 GNAC) hung tough with the league champion Falcons for most of the night, drawing within 57-47 with four minutes left. SPU (25-2, 17-1) made the necessary plays at the end though, winning with a balanced effort that saw 11 players crack the scoring column.
Nasby, a senior forward from Kelowna, British Columbia, scored a season-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, to go with five rebounds, two blocks an assist and a steal. Nasby's Saturday stats moved her into 19th place on UAA's career scoring list (707 points) and 13th in rebounds (476).
Fellow seniors Taylor Long (career-highs of 12 rebounds and 3 blocks), Jessica Reilly (4 assists) and O'Lita McWilliams (4 points, 2-3 FG, 1 block) also contributed in their final game. Reilly's assists put her in a tie with Kellie Larrabee (1997-01) for No. 4 on UAA's career list with 271.
Bro (4-11 FG, 3-5 3FG, 3-4 FT) helped jump-start the Seawolf offense in the first half, hitting a three-pointer just before the break that pulled UAA within 30-19. Nasby's layup with 17:42 remaining made it 34-25, but that was as close as the home team would get.
Guard Jenny Poe scored a team-high 13 points for the Falcons, while center Brittany Kroon grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked nine shots.
