No. 18 SPU stops Seawolves

SEATTLE (Sep. 22) - Alyssa Given had 17 kills and 12 digs to lead 18th-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 30-17, 30-20, 30-26 victory over the UAA volleyball team at Royal Brougham Pavilion on Thursday.


The Seawolves (4-9, 1-4 GNAC) got a team-high eight kills from freshman Heather Lyons, and a career-best 17 digs from freshman Cristal Negron. SPU (10-3, 4-0) outhit UAA .299 to .078 to record the sweep.


Despite the loss, the Seawolves played some of their best volleyball of the season in the third game, taking an early 13-12 lead in the frame. Although UAA never led again, it kept the score within a point until a Lyons kills made it 27-26. The Falcons rallied, however, recording two kills in the last three rallies to close the match.


Juniors Jasmine Ames and Chelsey Glines recorded six kills apiece for the Seawolves, while Jenny Carpenter reached double-figures in digs with 13.


Setter Jenna Von Moos keyed the SPU offense with 40 assists.


UAA next travels to Nampa, Idaho, for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday at 5 p.m. ADT.
