BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Jan. 14) - Rebecca Kielpinski tied for game-high honors with 17 points, but nothing else went the Seawolves' way Saturday night in a 94-44 women's basketball loss to ninth-ranked Western Washington at Carver Gym.
UAA (8-6, 1-4 GNAC) suffered its third straight defeat, while the Vikings (13-1, 6-0) got double-digit scoring from six players. WWU center Courtney Clapp tallied 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting, while reserve Claire Pallansch chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Vikings jumped to a 16-1 lead before the Seawolves got their first basket of the night, a jumper by Mari Riser (7 points) at the 12:01 mark.
Kielpinski, a 6-2 freshman center, equaled her season scoring average by shooting 7 of 15 from the field and 3 of 7 from the free throw line. Senior forward Kelsey Larsen scored seven points for UAA.
WWU won the rebounding battle 44-19 and shot 54 percent from the field. The Vikings made 7 of 14 three-point attempts.
UAA returns home to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex next week to host Great Northwest Athletic Conference foes Saint Martin's (Jan. 19, 5:30 p.m.) and Seattle University (Jan. 21, 5 p.m.).
