ANCHORAGE (Jan. 21) - Freshman Rebecca Kielpinski netted 22 points Saturday, but the UAA women's basketball team had trouble with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's top defensive team, losing 60-43 to Seattle University at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Redhawks (9-6, 4-3 GNAC) got a combined 25 points from the guard tandem of Ashley Brown and Jackie Thomas to hand the Seawolves (8-8, 1-6 GNAC) their fifth straight loss.
UAA, which has just seven healthy players after Tristan Burnett broke her hand in Thursday's game, came out of the gates quickly with a 14-6 lead. But the Seawolves went on a 9-minute field goal drought, and SU finished the half with a 12-5 run to grab a 30-23 halftime edge.
Seattle, the GNAC's leader in scoring defense and steals, never let the home team back in the contest in the second half, holding a double-digit lead from the 17:35 mark onward. SU forced 31 Seawolf turnovers and hit 44 percent of its shots.
Kielpinski's effort marked the sixth time she has topped the 20-point barrier this season.
The Seawolves return to the road next week when they travel to Northwest Nazarene (Jan. 26) and Seattle Pacific (Jan. 28).
