ANCHORAGE – Rebecca Kielpinski had 21 points and 11 rebounds and the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team overcame a slow start to score a 72-47 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Friday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Seawolves (11-0) also got 10 points from guard Limor Pelleg as they finished the first perfect non-conference schedule in school history. NDNU (0-10) was led by 12 points from guard Kelsey MacKenzie.
The visitors from Belmont, Calif., were able to keep the game close for the first eight minutes with tough defense, forging a 10-10 tie. But Maria Nilsson fed Jennifer Salazar for a backdoor layup to start a 9-0 Seawolf run that led to 40-20 halftime advantage.
The lead reached as high a72-37 with 4:10 remaining in the game as the Argonauts accounted for the final 10 points.
Kielpinski, who also had three blocks, earned her sixth double-double of the season and the 20th of her career (No. 5 all-time at UAA).
Other big contributions Friday came from point guard Keyona Brooks (5 pts, 6 assists, 1 turnover), senior center Tenecia Lockard (7 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks), and junior forward Maria Nilsson (career-high-tying 6 rebounds and 3 assists).
The Seawolves get the Great Northwest Athletic Conference season under way Jan. 3 when they host arch rival Alaska Fairbanks at 7 p.m. at the WFSC.
