SEASIDE, Calif. ? Rebecca Kielpinski scored 17 points and Jennifer Salazar had a personal-best 14 points as the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team improved to 8-0 with a 79-70 win over Cal State-Monterey Bay here Friday.

The Seawolves also got nine points each from seniors Tenecia Lockard and Jayci Stone as they extended their school-record win streak to start the season. CSUMB (2-3) got a game-high 19 points from guard Britnea Moore, but the Otters were held to just 29 percent shooting and made 25 turnovers.

UAA was sloppy itself, committing 31 turnovers, but overcame that with a rebounding advantage (42-39) and 45.5 percent shooting from the field.

After trailing 11-8 in the early going, the Seawolves used a 7-0 spurt to take the lead for good. Kat Harley converted a traditional three-point play to put UAA up 32-18, and the visitors took a 43-30 edge into halftime.

In the second half, the Otters quickly cut their deficit to 49-45, but Lockard answered with a pair of baskets just 20 seconds apart to give UAA control again. CSUMB, of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, would not get closer than the final margin the rest of the way.
