Tigers foil UAA?s hope for series sweep

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? Scott McCulloch scored two goals, including the game winner with 1:01 remaining in overtime, to help lead ninth-ranked Colorado College to a 4-3 overtime victory over UAA here tonight at the World Arena.

The Seawolves dropped to 8-6-2 overall and 6-6-0 in WCHA play with their second overtime loss of the season, while CC improved to 11-6-1 and 8-4-0 in league action.

The game was marred by a multi-player fight between the teams' moments after McCulloch's game clincher, resulting in a combined 11 game-disqualification penalties (six for UAA, five for CC).

The penalty-filled tilt saw a combined 195 penalty minutes, 108 of which were amassed by the Seawolves.

UAA forced the game into overtime for the second straight night by scoring two times in the final 4:24 of regulation, knotting the game at 3-3. Senior defenseman Mark Smith scored at 16:36 while freshman Josh Lunden tallied his third goal of the series with a power-play goal at 18:14 to force the extra session.

The Seawolves owned a 1-0 lead at the first break on a Luke Beaverson score 3:23 into the contest, but the Tigers would score three goals in the opening 5:42 of the second to grab a 3-1 advantage.

UAA played most of overtime a man down as it was called for a pair of penalties, including a too many men on the ice call 36 seconds into the extra frame. An interference call to Jay Beagle moments after killing off the first penalty led to CC's second man-advantage chance of overtime. The Tigers broke through with their first power-play goal of the series (1-of-17) for the game winner at 3:59.

Junior Nathan Lawson recorded 30 saves for UAA, including 12 in the third period. CC's Matt Zaba stopped 23 shots.

CC, who outshot the Seawolves 34-26, went 1-of-7 on the power play, while UAA was 1-of-4.

UAA returns home next weekend as it entertains Denver for a two-game series at the Sullivan Arena.
