Falcons stuff Seawolves, 67-34

ANCHORAGE (Feb. 23) - Rebecca Kielpinski posted yet another double-double performance Thursday, but it wasn't enough to save the Seawolves against one of the nation's best teams in a 67-34 loss to Seattle Pacific at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

UAA (11-13, 4-11 GNAC) got 19 points and 14 rebounds from Kielpinski - her league-leading 11th double-double - plus 10 points from guard Mari Riser. SPU (20-4, 14-1) won its 13th straight thanks to 21 points and six assists from guard Mandy Wood, and 13 points from backcourt mate Jenny Poe.

The Falcons, last year's NCAA Div. II runners-up and currently ranked No. 5 in the West Region, used a 14-0 run midway through the first half to stretch a slim 16-15 lead to a 30-18 halftime bulge.

SPU began the second half by holding the Seawolves to just four points in the opening nine minutes, aided by Wood's 5-of-10 three-point shooting. The Falcons, who lead the GNAC in field goal percentage defense, held UAA to a season-low 25 percent (14 of 56) shooting.

Riser was the only Seawolf to have a solid shooting night, making 5 of 8 to go along with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals.

Kielpinski, a freshman from Mandan, N.D., posted her third straight double-double on 7-of-29 shooting, while dishing four assists. The 6-2 center pulled within 14 rebounds of UAA's freshman season record (234, Rhonda Simmons, 1980-81) and she needs 52 points equal the freshman scoring record (518, Robin Graul, 1985-86).

The Seawolves have three games remaining, beginning with Saturday's home finale against Northwest Nazarene (5 p.m.).
