ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Rebecca Kielpinski posted another double-double and Jennifer Salazar tossed in 13 points, but the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team could not find another offensive hand Thursday in a 58-52 loss to host Central Washington at Nicholson Pavilion.
The Seawolves (14-2, 3-2 GNAC) also got six points and seven rebounds from Jayci Stone but could not hold on to a late, one-point advantage. The Wildcats (12-3, 2-2) got 14 points from guard Elyse Mengarelli and 12 points and 10 rebounds from forward Hanna Hull.
UAA led by four points early in the second half as the game stayed tight the entire way. Kielpinski (14 pts, 7-12 FG, 10 reb) broke the ninth and final tie with a layup at the 4:51 mark that made it 48-46.
After another lead change, Mari Callahan's jumper gave the Seawolves their final advantage of the night, 50-49, at the 3:37 mark. However, UAA would only get another Kielpinski basket the rest of the way as CWU cashed in on five of its last seven possessions.
The Seawolves had a final chance to tie when Keyona Brooks (4 pts, 4 reb, 4 assists) missed a jumper with 38 seconds showing, and the Wildcats sealed it on Ashley Fenimore's jumper 19 seconds later.
UAA, which has suffered both of its losses in GNAC road games, gets another shot at perennial league power Seattle Pacific on Saturday. That game begins at 6 p.m. AST.
