UAA men fall short in first GNAC road outing

LACEY, Wash. – Joe Davis scored a career-high 23 points, but the 25th-ranked Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not pull off another second-half comeback in a 76-74 loss Thursday at league-leading Saint Martin's.

McCade Olsen scored 14 points for the Seawolves (11-4, 2-2 GNAC), while the Saints (7-8, 4-0) got their sixth straight victory behind 24 points apiece from Jake Linton and Brendan Campbell.

UAA, which trailed by as many as 12 points early in the second half and by seven points with 1:37 remaining, whittled the Saints' lead down to the final margin with 7 seconds left. But the Seawolves could not execute the play called in their timeout huddle, and Cooper missed a long-range, desperation three-pointer off the rim at the buzzer.

Senior guard Eric Draper scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, including back-to-back three-pointers that game UAA its last lead at 60-59.

The Seawolves led 31-19 midway through the first half before the Saints stormed back to take a 40-37 lead on a bank-in three-pointer as time expired.

Davis topped his old career-high of 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including nailing his only three-point attempt.

The Seawolves play the second of four straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference road games when they visit Western Oregon (6-10, 1-4) on Saturday in Monmouth, Ore. Tip-off is 6 p.m. AST.
