Falcons pull away from Seawolves, 68-52

SEATTLE – Jennifer Salazar and Jayci Stone scored 12 points apiece Saturday as the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team suffered its first lopsided loss of the season, 68-52, to Seattle Pacific at Royal Brougham Pavilion.

Sophomore center Rebecca Kielpinski had 11 rebounds for UAA (14-3, 3-3 GNAC), while forward Rachel Strand scored 18 points to lead the Falcons (11-4, 5-0).

The Seawolves began Saturday's game in a huge hole, falling behind 20-2 and by as much as 22 points in the first half. UAA trailed 37-18 at halftime before beginning the second half with a huge rally.

However, Salazar and Tristan Burnett scored back-to-back baskets to begin the second half and the Seawolves went on a 16-2 run to draw within 39-36.

The Falcons, who also got 12 points and 12 rebounds from center Kelsey Hill, regained their control at that point, answering with a 17-3 run of their own and led by double digits for the final 10 minutes.

The Seawolves' previous two losses had come by 4 and 6 points, respectively, as they fell to 0-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference road games. UAA gets another shot a road success Saturday when it travels north to challenge rival Alaska Fairbanks.
