ANCHORAGE ? Outside hitter Jaime Anderson led a balanced attack with 14 kills and 11 digs as Western Washington showed Thursday why it is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-leader with a 30-24, 30-17, 30-14 win over host Alaska Anchorage at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (5-11, 1-9 GNAC) dropped its fourth straight despite 12 kills and 11 digs from junior outside hitter Joanna Johnson. WWU (13-4, 9-1) also got 13 kills from Angie Alvord and 11 kills apiece from Tiana Roma and Emily Castro as the league's preseason favorite stay in a first-place tie with Western Oregon atop the GNAC standings.
The Seawolves hung close in the first game, rallying from down 17-10 to take a 21-20 lead on a kill by setter Milica Micovic. But the Vikings, ranked No. 2 in the initial Div. II West Region poll this week, stormed back with six straight points and never looked back.
UAA's biggest bright spot was junior outside hitter Jessica Morehouse, who came one shy of her career-high with nine kills. The former Service High standout delivered the night's best individual attack percentage at .467 as well.
No other Seawolf managed more than three kills as WWU out-hit the home team .276 to .056.
Junior outside hitter Rachel Kidwell led UAA with 18 digs.
The Seawolves conclude their 4-match homestand Saturday when they take on Central Washington at the WFSC at 7 p.m.
