Wildcats too much for Seawolf spikers

ANCHORAGE ? Joanna Johnson's match-high 13 kills weren't enough Saturday to save the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team from its fifth straight loss as Central Washington defeated the Seawolves 30-17, 30-21, 30-18 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

UAA (5-12, 1-10 GNAC) also got eight kills and eight digs from junior Rachel Kidwell. The Wildcats (8-12, 7-4) were powered by 10 kills apiece from Kayla Roof and Kady Try, while defensive specialist Erin Norris accounted for seven of her team's 13 aces.

CWU also got 13 digs from both Roof and Erika Stevens, plus seven kills and seven total blocks (3 solo) from middle blocker Rachael Schurman. The visitors out-hit the Seawolves .226 to .009, out-aced them 13-1 and outblocked them 12-6.

Junior libero Cristal Negron led UAA with 12 digs, while Johnson and Kidwell managed eight apiece. Junior middle blocker Jessica Morehouse had a team-best five total blocks for the hosts.

UAA returns to the road next week to face Montana State Billings (Oct. 18) and Seattle University (Oct. 20).
