Saints repel Seawolves, 3-0

LACEY, Wash. ? Saint Martn's sophomore Shealun Campisi had a near-flawless hitting performance Thursday as the host team outplayed visiting Alaska Anchorage in almost every statistical category to score a 30-22, 30-28, 30-23 sweep of the Seawolves at SMU Pavilion.

UAA (5-17, 1-15 GNAC) suffered its 10th straight loss and was swept in the season series by SMU for the first time ever. SMU (3-22, 3-12) got 18 kills on .500 hitting from Campisi ? who committed just one error in 34 attack attempts ? plus 11 kills apiece from Andrea Tarbet and Nicole Ostlund.

UAA's Rhea Cardwell, who did not play in UAA's October home loss to the Saints, was available Thursday but it did not make a difference in the outcome. The junior outside hitter led UAA with eight kills and 17 digs.

Senior middle blocker Kim Stolk also had eight kills for UAA, while Rachel Kidwell had 10 digs and three aces.

The Saints out-hit the Seawolves .279 to .088, outdug them 48-44 and outblocked them 10-5. UAA's only advantage came in the service aces category, 9-5.

UAA fought back from a 29-24 deficit in Game 2 to draw within 29-28, but Campisi clinched the frame with a kill on SMU's fifth chance at game point.

The Seawolves play their final road match of the year Saturday when they visit Western Oregon in Monmouth, Ore. (6 p.m. ADT).
