ANCHORAGE ? Joanna Johnson tallied the most kills for a Seawolf this season, but visiting Alaska Fairbanks spoiled the fun at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex with a 30-28, 26-30, 30-26, 31-29 victory over the Seawolves to close the 2007 campaign Saturday.
UAA (5-19, 1-17 GNAC) finished the year with 12 straight losses despite getting 27 kills from Johnson and 17 from fellow junior outside hitter Rhea Cardwell. UAF (10-16, 4-14) snapped its own nine-match skid behind 17 kills and 21 digs from outside hitter Megan Thigpen.
The Seawolves, who hit a season-best .227 attack percentage as a team, appeared set to send Friday's match into a decisive fifth game with a 28-21 lead in the fourth, however the Nanooks rallied with 10 of the final 11 points, finishing the match with an ace by Miranda Trudeau.
UAA got double-doubles from Johnson (27 kills-19 digs) and Cardwell (17 kills-19 digs), while libero Cristal Negron made a match-high 23 digs. Junior middle blocker Jessica Morehouse banged nine kills for the Seawolves, while senior Kim Stolk had eight kills and four total blocks in her final collegiate outing.
Setter Milica Micovic dished 51 kills in the losing effort and tied her season-best with three kills.
