ANCHORAGE ? Cleveland State's Shawnita Garland came off the bench to score 20 points and grab eight rebounds Wednesday, leading the Vikings to an 82-61 win over Bradley in the consolation game of the women's Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
CSU (2-2) also got big games from starters Kailey Klein, Dominque Butler and Brittany Korth, who combined for 45 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists.
Bradley (1-4) was led by 20 points from reserve guard Jenny Van Kirk.
The Vikings led virtually the entire game, although the Braves crept within 58-53 with 6:32 remaining. Garland and the Vikings responded with a 9-0 run at that point, however, to put the game away.
Garland shot 6 of 7 from the field and 7 of 9 on free throws, adding five assists and five steals in 21 minutes, to earn Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game honors.
Both teams were making their first Shootout appearances.
