Seawolves come back to net Shootout repeat

ANCHORAGE ? Rebecca Kielpinski scored 23 points ? including the winning layup with 4 seconds left ? as host Alaska Anchorage rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit Wednesday night to capture its second straight Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title with a 52-50 win over Santa Clara.

The Seawolves (4-0) also got nine points, four assists and three steals from all-tournament selection Kalhie Quinones.

Santa Clara (3-2) was led by 20 points from Wasilla, Alaska, native Chandice Cronk, but the Broncos were held scoreless for the last 6 minutes of the game as UAA ended with an 11-0 run.

Kielpinski, who grabbed 11 rebounds and shot 9 of 17 from the floor, was voted the tourney's Most Outstanding Player for the second straight time.

UAA started the game in an offensive funk, missing 15 of its first 16 shots and committing eight turnovers to fall behind 18-4. SCU took a 31-19 lead into halftime and appeared on its way to an easy victory when Cronk's layup made it 42-27 with 14:17 remaining.

But the Seawolves shot 19 of 36 after their slow start, led by the interior play of Kielpinski, a 6-2 junior center.

UAA's Maria Nilsson chipped in with seven points and fellow senior Jennifer Salazar dished four assists, including the game-winner to Kielpinski.
