ANCHORAGE ? Freshman Manny Harris scored 19 points and senior Ron Coleman had 14 points and seven rebounds to help Michigan fend off Eastern Washington 61-53 in Friday's first consolation semifinal at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Harris also had five assists and five rebounds for the Wolverines (3-2), who committed just nine turnovers and shot 13 of 15 from the free throw line.
EWU (1-5) was led by 13 points from senior forward Kellen Williams and nine points apiece from guard Adris DeLeon and center Brandon Moore.
The Eagles, who trailed 34-21 at the break, almost completed one of the biggest comebacks in the Shootout's 30-year history, drawing within 54-53 on Trey Gross' three-pointer with 1:27 remaining.
But the Wolverines answered with the game's final seven points ? all on free throws ? to seal the win and a place in Saturday's 4th/6th-place contest. UM will face the winner of Alaska Anchorage and Western Kentucky at 2 p.m., while EWU plays the loser of that game at noon for 7th place.
