ANCHORAGE ? Texas Tech guard Alan Voskuil scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds Friday to lead his team to a 73-63 upset of 14th-ranked Gonzaga in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout semifinals at Sullivan Arena.
The Red Raiders (4-1) also got 11 points apiece from reserves Charlie Burgess and D'walyn Roberts to advance to Saturday's 8:30 p.m. AST championship game against 22nd-ranked Butler. The game will air on ESPN2.
Gonzaga (4-1) got 15 points and eight rebounds from junior swingman Micah Downs, but the Bulldogs were done in by 19 turnovers, plus a 7-minute stretch from late in the first half to early in the second when they went without a field goal.
David Pendergraft and Matt Bouldin tallied 11 points each in the losing effort.
Voskuil, who scored 10 of his team's first 12 points, earned Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game honors, dishing off four assists and grabbing five steals as well. He shot 10 of 17 from the field (5-7 3FG) and made 3 of 4 from the charity stripe to keep the Bulldogs at bay.
Texas Tech and head coach Bob Knight ? who appeared twice at the Shootout with Indiana (1978 & 1995) ? will be making their debut in the prestigious tourney's title game. The Red Raiders' only previous trip to Anchorage came in 1990 when they finished seventh.
Gonzaga will take on Virginia Tech for third place at 6 p.m. AST.
