Lee leads Hilltoppers over Wolverines for 4th

ANCHORAGE ? Western Kentucky's Courtney Lee scored 22 points and made four steals to help his team capture fourth place in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout with a 73-69 win over Michigan on Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

WKU (5-1) also got 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from forward D.J. Magley, plus nine points and six assists from point guard Tyrone Brazelton.

Freshman Manny Harris scored 14 of his 22 points from the free throw line for the Wolverines (3-3), while forward DeShawn Sims tallied 16 points. Harris also led Michigan with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Hilltoppers led 58-44 when Ty Rogers nailed a three-pointer with 12 minutes to play, but the Wolverines went on an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to close the gap to five.

Lee, a senior All-America candidate, then answered with his first two baskets of the second half on WKU's next two possessions, and Magley sank a pair of free throws at the 2:20 mark to make it 71-63.

The Wolverines wouldn't go away, however, as C.J. Lee made a steal that led to a Harris dunk, making it 71-69 with 43 seconds left.

Magley, a 6-9 freshman, sealed the win with 10 seconds left when he grabbed Brazelton's miss and flipped in a soft jumper in the lane.

Lee was named the Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game.
