ANCHORAGE - Gonzaga's Abdullahi Kuso scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the 14th-ranked Bulldogs to an 82-64 win over Virginia Tech in the third-place game at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout tonight.
Sophomore guard Matt Bouldin led the Zags (5-1) in scoring by pouring in 20 points, including hitting 6 of 8 shots from three-point range. David Pendergraft tallied 13 and Jeremy Pargo chipped in 10 for the Bulldogs, who used a 14-6 run in the opening five minutes of the second half to break the game open.
Four Hokies (2-2) scored in double-figures, led by junior A.D. Vassallo's 20 points (7-16 FG, 4-8 3FG). Deron Washington scored 11, followed by Malcolm Delaney and J.T. Thompson with 10 each.
Gonzaga maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half as Virginia Tech would get no closer than 10.
The Bulldogs shot 54.7 percent from the field (29-53) and 53.3 percent (8-15) from behind the 3-point arc for the game.
Gonzaga led 41-33 at the half.
