Women glide past Silverswords, 98-31

ANCHORAGE ? Juniors Ruby Williams and Dasha Basova scored 15 points apiece to lead 5th-ranked Alaska Anchorage to a 98-31 victory over Chaminade in the second game of the Glacier Classic at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Friday night.

UAA (5-0) also got seven rebounds from Rebecca Kielpinski ? who scored her 1,000th career point in the first half ? as it began the game on a 20-0 run and never looked back. The Silverswords (0-1) were led by 10 points from guard Marian Murphy.

The Seawolves shot a season-high 52.6 percent from the field and dished 32 assists, just three short of the school record. UAA's 56-16 halftime lead was its biggest ever against a Division II opponent.

Junior forward Lillie Parks was named Player of the Game with career-highs of nine points (4-4 FG) and four assists. The Rialto, Calif., native also had five rebounds and four of UAA's 23 steals.

The Seawolves held the visitors from Honolulu ? in just their second year as a program ? to 20.5 percent shooting as the Silverswords managed only two 2-point baskets. CU shot 7 of 22 from three-point range.

Maria Nilsson had 10 points and three assists in 12 minutes for the Seawolves. The Swede shot 2 of 5 from three-point range to move into 10th place all-time on UAA's threes made list with 59.

Kielpinski now has 1,002 career points, No. 10 on UAA's career list.

In Friday's first game, Sarah Herrin had 20 points and six rebounds to lead Alaska Fairbanks to a 71-67 win over Mesa State.

Forward Kelsie Gourdin scored a game-high 23 points for Mesa State (1-4), but her potential game-tying three-point attempt with 10 seconds left rimmed out, leaving the visitors from Grand Junction, Colo., on the losing end.

UAF (2-1) also got 20 points from forward Christina Bruketta and 12 points from guard Sheena Brown. Herrin was named Player of the Game after knocking down 7 of 11 shots (3-4 3FG).

The Classic concludes Saturday with UAF taking on Chaminade at 5 p.m., followed by UAA vs. Mesa State at 7 p.m.
