UAA can't tame 4th-ranked Tigers

ANCHORAGE - Colorado College scored four unanswered goals, including a pair of power-play tallies in the third period, to break open a tightly played first two periods of hockey and earn a 4-1 win and series sweep over Alaska Anchorage tonight at the Sullivan Arena.

Freshman Tommy Grant's power-play goal at 4:36 of the second lifted UAA (4-5-3, 1-5-2 WCHA) to its first lead of the series at 1-0, but the No. 4-ranked Tigers would answer just 30 seconds later with an evenstrength tally from Jimmy Kilpatrick and an unassisted marker from former Seawolf Eric Walsky in the waning moments of the period to take a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.

The league-leading Tigers, who are 9-1-0 in their last 10 games, would tack on power-play scores from Kiplatrick at 2:17 and Brian Connelly at 13:52 to put away UAA and earn the program's 43rd all-time win in the series.

CC goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 24 of 25 shots, including turning back nine Seawolf shot attempts in the third.

Sophomore netminder Jon Olthuis recorded 19 saves in the loss for UAA, but didn't appear to be as sharp as he was during Friday's one-goal setback.

The Seawolves, who outshot the Tigers for the second straight game 25-23, were 1-of-4 with the man advantage while CC capitalized on 2-of-6 power-play opportunities.

Grant collected his fourth point of the season on UAA's goal, while freshman Craig Parkinson put an end to a six-game pointless skid with the first assist. Sophomore Kevin Clark added to his team-leading point total by earning his 12th point of the season with the second assist on the 'Wolves' lone score.

UAA, which was averaging 3.1 goals per game prior to its series against the Tigers, were held to its lowest two-game goal output since scoring one in a series at Wisconsin in February of last season.

The Seawolves are back on the road next weekend as they head to the shores of Lake Superior to face Minnesota Duluth.
