ANCHORAGE ? Joanna Johnson had 12 kills and the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team posted its best hitting percentage of the season, but the Seawolves were doomed by a poor service game as host Central Washington earned a 30-25, 30-25, 30-22 victory Thursday at Nicholson Pavilion.
The Seawolves (4-4, 0-2 GNAC) lost despite hitting .214 (43 kills-19 errors-112 attacks) and besting their hosts 52-47 in the digs department. The Wildcats (3-9, 2-1) were even hotter offensively, though, hitting .264, led by Rachael Schurman's outstanding 17 kills with just one error.
UAA, meanwhile, managed just a single service ace, while giving up eight.
Rachel Kidwell and Rhea Cardwell slammed nine kills apiece for UAA, and junior middle blocker Jessica Morehouse registered a career- and team-season-high .545 hitting percentage (7-1-11). Kidwell had a match-best 17 digs, and Cardwell made 17.
The Seawolves finish their 3-match road trip to open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at Western Washington on Saturday (6 p.m. ADT).
