FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Anchorage volleyball team had its 4-match winning streak snapped in decisive fashion Saturday as arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks scored a 30-26, 30-24, 30-16 win over the Seawolves at the Patty Center.
Rachel Kidwell had a match-high 14 digs, but that was about the only highlight for UAA (4-3, 0-1 GNAC) in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both squads. The Nanooks (7-2, 1-0) were led by 11 kills apiece from Jessica King and Megan Thigpen.
UAA, which was led by junior Rhea Cardwell's nine kills, was outhit .261 to .033, outdug 53-40 and outblocked 7-4. Kidwell had seven kills and junior libero Cristal Negron made nine digs for the Seawolves.
UAA continues GNAC play on the road next week with matches at Central Washington (Thur., Sept. 13) and Western Washington (Sat., Sept. 15). Both begin at 6 p.m. ADT.
