'Wolves fall 5-2 at #4 CC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? League-leading Colorado College completed a season sweep over Alaska Anchorage as the No. 4-ranked Tigers skated past the Seawolves 5-2 here tonight on home ice at the World Arena.

 

UAA (6-9-5, 2-9-3 WCHA), which has dropped four consecutive conference games, received goals from senior Peter Cartwright and Brad McCabe, while sophomore netminder Jon Olthuis recorded 29 saves.

 

CC (16-6-0, 15-3-0 WCHA) bolted out to a commanding 4-0 lead, including scoring three times in a 5 minute, 57 second span during the second period, before the Seawolves (6-9-5, 2-9-3 WCHA) would get on the scoreboard with two third-period goals.

 

Chad Rau opened the scoring for the Tigers at the 6:10 mark of the second before Brian McMillin would strike at 11:18 and Jimmy Kilpatrick at 13:07 to give CC a 3-0 lead at the second break.

 

Bill Sweatt would notch the second power-play tally of the night for the Tigers at 1:38 of the third building the lead to 4-0 before Cartwright would connect for a short-handed tally at 4:07 cutting the lead to 4-1.

 

The short-handed score, the second by UAA this season, was the also the second of Cartwright's career.

 

McCabe brought UAA to within two at 4-2 with his fourth goal of the season at 18:16 of the period, but Rau would knock in the second of his two scores in the waning seconds of the game making the final difference three goals.

 

The Seawolves, who were limited to 19 shots, went scoreless on the power play for the second straight night at 0 of 3. The homestanding Tigers, who fired 34 shots on net, were 2 of 5 with the man advantage.

 

Junior defenseman Mat Robinson collected his 12th point of the season with an assist on the ?Wolves' first goal, while junior Shane Lovdahl and sophomore Jared Tuton earned helpers on UAA's second score. Lovdahl's assist was his sixth in the last four games while Tuton's was the fourth point of his career.

 

Freshman goalie Richard Bachman helped CC move to 30-2-0 all-time at home against UAA by stopping 19 shots.

 

The Seawolves return to Sullivan Arena next weekend for a two-game home series against Wisconsin. Faceoff Friday is slated for 7:37 p.m., while Saturday's contest begins at 7:07 p.m.
