ANCHORAGE ? Rebecca Kielpinski delivered an outstanding all-around performance and senior Maria Nilsson and Kalhie Quinones had big scoring nights Saturday to lift the 9th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a runaway 78-39 victory over Western Oregon at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (16-2, 5-1 GNAC) got 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four blocks and four steals from Kielpinski, a junior center, as the Seawolves ran their home-court winning streak to 29 games.
WOU (4-10, 0-5) was led by 12 points from forward Vanessa Wyffels, but the Wolves were held to 31.9 percent shooting and forced into 25 turnovers by a tenacious Seawolf defense.
The visitors actually led 7-0 and 14-9 early before Nilsson (17 pts, 5-8 3FG) drained a three-pointer to start a 13-0 Seawolf run. UAA stretched its halftime lead to 39-25 and then applied the defensive vice in the second half, allowing just 5-of-23 shooting and 14 points.
Quinones scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half, coming one point shy of her career high in just 21 minutes. The senior from Colorado shot 5 of 8 from the field and was perfect on five free throws.
Junior post Dasha Basova also got into the scoring rhythm with eight points (2-4 3FG) , five rebounds and a pair of UAA's 14 steals. Junior point guard Danielle Dekel dished a career-high seven assists as well.
The Seawolves return to action next Saturday when they travel north to face arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center. That game tips at 3 p.m. AST.
