Seawolves steamroll Saints in Washington

LACEY, Wash. ? Outside hitters Rhea Cardwell and Rachel Kidwell notched double-doubles and setter Calli Scott orchestrated a precise Seawolf offense as the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team rolled to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-13 whitewashing of Saint Martin's at SMU Pavilion on Thursday.

The Seawolves (11-6, 3-1 GNAC) also got 11 kills on an impressive .588 attack percentage from sophomore middle blocker Cortney Lundberg, while libero Stacie Meisner made a match-high 15 digs.

The Saints (2-10, 0-4) were led by nine kills apiece from Shealun Campisi and Andrea Tarbet, but the home team was out-hit .317 to .135 and outdug 55-47.

“Offensively we really turned it around tonight,” said UAA head coach Chris Green, whose team suffered a narrow loss to Alaska Fairbanks in its previous outing. “We did a much better job of passing, and I think we showed the improvement that needs to be made from match to match.”

UAA led the entire night except for the first point of Set 1 and the first few points of Set 3, powered by Scott's 37 assists.

Cardwell, meanwhile, had 14 kills and 14 digs for her team-best seventh double-double, and fellow senior Kidwell managed 10 kills and 12 digs. Cardwell committed only one error for a .419 attack pct. (14-1-31).

Senior outside hitter Joanna Johnson had three of UAA's five aces, while the Seawolves allowed no aces to the hosts.

UAA is on the road for two more matches as it takes on GNAC co-leader Western Oregon (11-1, 4-0) on Saturday (6 p.m. ADT) in Monmouth, Ore., followed by a Monday (5 p.m. ADT) clash at Montana State Billings.
