ANCHORAGE ? Alaska Anchorage senior Rhea Cardwell had a match-high 20 kills Thursday but it was the superior blocking of 3rd-ranked Western Washington that helped the Vikings to a 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22 victory over the host Seawolves in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (11-9, 3-4) also got 13 kills and 15 digs from senior outside hitter Rachel Kidwell as they dropped their third in a row.

The Vikings (13-0, 5-0) ? the last unbeaten team in NCAA Div. II ? were led by 18 kills and a .375 attack percentage from middle blocker Angie Alvord, while Tiana Roma and Shanley Besett combined for 22 kills.

After dropping the first set, UAA found itself down 7-2 early in the second. The Seawolves responded to a timeout by head coach Chris Green, however, and outscored the Vikings 23-12 the rest of the way to even the match 1-1.

UAA jumped to its own 7-2 lead and held a 19-14 edge in the third set before the Vikings made another comeback. In the final set, UAA managed a 19-19 tie prior to the favorites pulling away.

The Vikings outblocked UAA 13-5, including stuffs on several long rallies, as Alvord and Roma each had six total blocks.

Despite the loss, UAA got impressive showings from sophomore middle blocker Cortney Lundberg (12 kills, .588 att%), who hit over .500 for the seventh time this year, and junior setter Calli Scott, whose 52 assists were a personal-best for a 4-set match.

The Seawolves will look to turn their luck around Saturday when they host Central Washington (12-6, 4-2) at 7 p.m. at the WFSC.
