ANCHORAGE ? Sophomore guard Nikki Aden scored a career-high 16 points and senior point guard Jackie Thiel had a flawless outing Friday as the 3rd-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team topped Cal State Stanislaus 86-52 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
Junior forward Nicci Miller scored all 13 of her points in the first half for the Seawolves (10-1), who won their eighth straight and increased their homecourt win streak to 12 with the West Region victory.
The Warriors (6-2), who had not played a game decided by double digits this season, got a combined 26 points and 14 rebounds from starting forwards Lysandra Williams and Katie Busi.
CSUS jumped ahead 4-2 in the early going as the visitors from Turlock, Calif., grabbed eight of the game's first 10 rebounds. But UAA answered quickly with a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.
A few minutes later, junior guard Kiki Taylor (9 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) would start a 13-0 spurt for the Seawolves with a layup, followed by an assist on a Thiel three-pointer, as the lead stretched to 31-10 at the 7:13 mark.
UAA led 49-24 at halftime and twice pushed its largest advantage to 39 in the second half. The Seawolf bench outscored its Warrior counterparts 43-14 and UAA eventually earned a 47-33 edge on the boards.
Aden drained 6 of 8 from the field ? including nd 4 of 5 from three-point land ? to erase her previous career-best of 10 points. The Portland, Ore., native also dished a pair of assists.
Meanwhile, Thiel, a transfer from Division I Florida Gulf Coast, nailed all four of her three-point tries and earned season-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds. She also dished three assists without a turnover while playing a team-high 25 minutes.
Post players Rebecca Kielpinski, Dasha Basova and Hanna Johansson tallied eight points apiece, while Johansson ? a true freshman ? snagged a season-best seven rebounds.
The Seawolves and Warriors will meet again Saturday in UAA's final game on the 2008 calendar. Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m. AST at the Sports Complex.
