SEATTLE ? Another monster effort from junior center Rebecca Kielpinski was not enough Thursday as the 7th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team suffered a late-game collapse in a 67-64 loss to host Seattle University at the Connolly Center.
UAA (25-4, 14-3 GNAC) got 23 points and a 15 rebounds from its star, but Seattle (16-10, 7-10) fought back for the final 13 points of the game to keep its slim playoff chances alive.
The Seawolves, ranked No. 3 in the latest West Region poll, had their 6-game winning streak snapped after taking a 64-54 lead on Kielpinski's layup with 3:55 to play. But everything went wrong for the visitors from that point.
UAA failed to score on its final six possessions, while the Redhawks produced points on five of their last six tries, including a pair of three-pointers from Kamrica Ary-Turner (15 points, 3-6 3FG). Forward Chelsie Morrison led SU with 20 points (7-11 FG), while senior forward Laina Sobczak had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the home team.
The Seawolves got 13 points from senior guard Kalhie Quinones, but she was shut out in the second half after shooting 5 of 6 from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Kielpinski's 23 points equaled her season-high set in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title win over Santa Clara, while the 15 boards were her second-most this year. The North Dakotan shot 9 of 12 from the field.
Forward Ruby Williams added 10 points for UAA, which will close its regular season on the road at Montana State Billings on Saturday. That game begins at 5 p.m. AST.
