ANCHORAGE ? The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team stretched its winning streak to 10 games with an 89-29 victory Friday over Kuyper College at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
UAA (12-1), ranked No. 3 in NCAA Div. II, was led by a game-high 15 points from senior point guard Jackie Thiel, while freshman Hanna Johansson had 11 points and three assists.
The Cougars (2-13) were led by 13 points from guard Rachel Grochowalski, who shot 11 of 13 from the free-throw line. Kuyper is a National Christian College Athletic Association school from Grand Rapids, Mich., in just its second year as a basketball program.
Friday's result was never in doubt as UAA started the game with a 25-2 run and held the Cougars to 20.5 percent shooting. The 60-point margin of victory ranks tied for 11th on UAA's all-time list, while the 29 points allowed equals the fifth-lowest total.
Senior guard Elisha Harris and junior forward Nicci Miller scored 10 points apiece for UAA as no Seawolf played more than 21 minutes.
The Seawolves will close their non-conference slate Saturday when they meet the Cougars again at 5:15 p.m. AST.
