Houston topples UAA 73-57

ANCHORAGE – The Houston backcourt duo of Aubrey Coleman and Desmond Wade accounted for 40 points and 10 assists Saturday to lead their team to a 73-57 victory over host Alaska Anchorage and claim third place in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.

UAA (3-2) was led by a season-high 26 points from sophomore center Malcolm Campbell, plus 21 from senior guard Brandon Walker.

The Cougars (3-2) also got 14 points, three assists and four steals from guard Adam Brown, out-shooting the hosts 49 percent to 38.5 percent.

Coleman shot 11 of 16 from the field (2-2 3FG) and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds to earn Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game honors. Wade, meanwhile, had 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting (3-3 3FG) and seven assists.

Houston never trailed, jumping to a quick 5-0 lead and taking a 37-25 advantage into the locker room. The Seawolves – the tournament's lone Division II squad – managed to keep it close until the final minutes, but UAA could get not find a third scoring option.

Campbell and Walker both shot 8 of 13 from the field, while the rest of the Seawolves combined to make just 4 of 26 shots. Campbell sank 10 of 13 free throws, and Walker went 3-for-4. Junior guard Drew Robinson led UAA with six assists and six rebounds.

Walker's scoring performance gave him at least 21 points in all three Shootout games this year, moving him into 11th place on the tournament's all-time scoring list (114).

The Seawolves are now off until Nov. 11 when they take on Grace Bible College in the Glacier Classic in Fairbanks.
