2010 VB schedule set

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage head volleyball coach Chris Green announced his squad's 2010 schedule on Monday.

The defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions will kick off the upcoming campaign with an alumni exhibition match on Aug. 21 before diving into the 26-match regular season.

The Seawolves will take the court at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex 11 times, beginning with the 16th annual Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational, Aug. 26-28. UAA will host Drury (Mo.) for a pair of ESDI matches, although the event will not be played in its traditional tournament format. GNAC rival Alaska Fairbanks will be the other ESDI participant.

Prior to entering conference play, the Seawolves travel to the Western Oregon Invitational, Sept. 3-4, where they will face last year's top two West Region seeds in UC San Diego and Cal State-San Bernardino. The Seawolves will also take on Metro State (Colo.) and Humboldt State (Calif.) at the WOU Invite, before heading to the Bay Area to face Dominican and San Francisco State the following week.

The 18-match GNAC slate begins at Western Oregon on Sept. 9, and UAF returns to Anchorage on Sept. 18 for UAA's league home opener.

The regular season wraps up at home against WOU on Nov. 13, with the NCAA West Regional Championships scheduled for the following week.

UAA went 23-8 and won the GNAC with a 14-2 league mark in 2009. The Seawolves advanced to the second round of the NCAA West Regionals where they lost in three sets to eventual national semifinalist Cal State-San Bernardino.
