ANCHORAGE – Guard Nico Matthews had 19 points to
lead five Alaska Fairbanks players in double figures Friday as the Nanooks
earned an 83-77 men's basketball victory over Minot State in Game 1 of the
AT&T Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Nanooks (2-7) also got 14 points apiece from guard Dominique Brinson and
center Sergej Pucar, while Stefan Tica and Jesse Ward scored 11 points each.
The Beavers (1-8) were led by a game-high 23 points from guard Yonas Berhe, who
also had six assists. The North Dakota squad also got a 15-point, 10-rebound
performance from swingman Adam Randall in the loss.
Matthews, who was named AT&T Player of the Game, shot 5 of 5 from the field
and 9 of 12 at the free throw line, adding six rebounds, six assists, six
steals and no turnovers.
UAF will take on Portland Bible College in Game 3 of the Jamboree at 5 p.m. on
Saturday, while Minot State will face host Alaska Anchorage at 7 p.m. Saturday
at the WFSC.
