Badgers skate past Seawolves, 4-0

MADISON, Wis. – Alaska Anchorage held a slight lead in shots but could not muster a goal as the Seawolves lost 4-0 to host Wisconsin in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at Kohl Center on Friday night.

The Seawolves (6-13-2, 3-13-1 WCHA) suffered their fourth straight loss, all on the road, getting shut out for the first time since Nov. 19.

The Badgers (11-10-2, 6-9-2) got three-point nights from center Mark Zengerle and defenseman Justin Schultz as both tallied a goal and two assists.

Zengerle started the scoring midway through the first when he converted a pass from Joseph LaBate and Schultz for the even-strength game-winner. Frankie Simonelli struck just 40 seconds into the second to make it 2-0, and Jake McCabe scored on assists from Schultz and Zengerle at the 11:18 mark. Schultz capped the scoring with just under 5 minutes left.

UW's Joel Rumpel earned the shutout with 23 saves, while UAA sophomore netminder Chris Kamal fell to 4-6-0 on the season with 18 saves on 22 shots. Offensively, wingers Curtis Leinweber and Andrew Pettitt paced UAA with three shots on goal apiece.

UAA was whistled for four minor penalties, with the Badgers drawing two minors. All four goals came even-strength as UW went 0 for 3 and UAA 0 for 1 on the power play.

The Seawolves and Badgers face off again at 4:07 p.m. AST on Saturday to conclude the only regular-season series between the clubs this year.
