Falcons down Seawolves in Seattle

SEATTLE – Taylor Rohde had 12 points and seven rebounds Saturday, but the 18th-ranked Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end with an 85-51 defeat against host Seattle Pacific at Royal Brougham Pavilion.

The Seawolves (10-3, 4-1 GNAC) also got seven points apiece from guard Marcus Jackson and Travis Thompson as they suffered their first loss in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play and their first at all since Nov. 24 against Div. I Dartmouth in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

The Falcons (12-3, 4-2) were led by 20 points on 5-of-8 three-point shooting from sophomore guard David Downs, while forward Jobi Hall tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds.

UAA fell behind 16-4 at the outset before Kyle Fossman sank back-to-back three-pointers to draw within 20-17 midway through the first half. The Falcons took control at that point, however, scoring seven straight and ending the half with a 39-22 edge.

The Seawolves, who shot 59 percent in their previous two games, connected on a season-low 31 percent (15 of 49) from the floor. SPU, meanwhile, shot 54 percent (28 of 52) and outrebounded the visitors 43-24.

UAA returns home to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex next week for games against Simon Fraser (Thur., Jan. 12) and Western Washington (Sat., Jan. 14). Both contests begin at 7 p.m. AST.
