ANCHORAGE – Sophomore guard Michael Brown led a
balanced Colorado Christian effort with 15 points Saturday as the Cougars
earned a 72-63 men's basketball victory over Alaska Fairbanks in the AT&T
Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
CCU (1-1) also got 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals from
center Dylan Crist in the victory.
UAF (1-1) was led by 17 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks from center Sergej
Pucar, but the Nanooks were outshot 45.5 percent to 32.8 percent and made just
6 of 25 (.240) three-pointers.
The Cougars, from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, held a 34-26 halftime
lead before the Nanooks rallied to for a 40-40 tie with 15:50 to play. CCU
responded with a 5-0 run, including a jumper by Brown, and stretched its lead
to 52-43 with under 10 minutes remaining.
After the Nanooks pulled back within four points at the 4:32 mark, Brown
answered with a traditional three-point play, followed by a long-range trey, to
seal the win.
UAF, from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, also got 11 points from
swingman Stefan Tica.
