Henry leads Charlotte into semis

ANCHORAGE – Charlotte point guard Pierria Henry recorded a double-double and spearheaded a late rally Thursday to lead the 49ers to a 73-64 victory over Texas State in the opening round of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.

The 49ers (4-0) also got a game-high 18 points from center Chris Braswell, who added eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a reserve role.

The Bobcats (2-2) were led by 15 points, four assists and three steals from guard Wesley Davis, while forward Joel Wright contributed 13 points and six rebounds.

In a contest that featured seven ties and 17 lead changes, it was Charlotte who landed the final punch, outscoring its Western Athletic Conference opponent 11-0 over the last five minutes.

Henry, who shot 5 of 10 from the field, stuffed the Thanksgiving stat sheet with 12 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. Charlotte also got double-figure scoring from guard Denzel Ingram (11 points, 5 assists) and swingman DeMario Mayfield (10 points) as seven different 49ers tallied at least six points.

The 49ers, from the Atlantic-10 Conference, move on to face Oral Roberts (3-1) in Friday's 9:30 p.m. AST semifinal, while the Bobcats fall into the consolation bracket against Loyola Marymount (2-2) at 3 p.m.
