MADISON, Wis. - Alaska Anchorage's second line of the evening
furnish all of the Seawolves' points Friday, but the trio couldn't take down No.
20-ranked Wisconsin alone, falling to the Badgers 5-2 in a Western Collegiate
Hockey Association game at the Kohl Center.
The Seawolves (3-15-5, 1-14-4 WCHA) came back to tie the
game, 1-1 in the first period but the Badgers (10-8-5, 7-5-5 WCHA) furnished
four more tallies before the Seawolves got on the board again, lengthening UAA's
winless streak to 11 games.
With Wisconsin up 1-0 after a Nic Kerdiles goal just 1:26
into the game, freshman forward Blake Tatchell (North Battleford, Sask.) extended
his team-lead in points with his fifth goal of the season at 6:59. Junior
Jordan Kwas came away with the puck from along the boards and found Tatchell,
who beat a screened Joel Rumpel. Tatchell's and Kwas' left wing Scott Allen
assisted on the play.
The Badgers would then take a 2-1 lead with a first-period
goal from Tyler Barnes (15:13), before seeing two Michael Mersch goals - one in
the second and one in the third - sandwiched around a Mark Zengerle tally at
15:22 of the second.
Allen, from Edmonton, Alberta, registered his third
multi-point game of the season with an even-strength goal at 9:43. Again, Kwas,
a local of Cochrane, Alberta, was the playmaker as he got a shot off on Rumpel
before Allen collected the rebound. Likewise, Tatchell earned the second
assist.
Both senior Scott Warner and freshman Chris Williams were
patrolling the blueline for both the UAA goals.
Overall, the Badgers came away with a 37-14 edge on shots on
goal and were able to convert on 2-of-3 power-play opportunities. Both teams were tagged for six minutes of
infractions.
The teams will meet tomorrow night for the final time as
members of the WCHA with puck drop scheduled for 5:07 p.m. AST.
