ANCHORAGE – The Georgetown Hoyas were crowned the 2013 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout victors with a 92-78 victory over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in the women's championship game Wednesday at the Sullivan Arena.
The Seawolves (5-1) hung close to the Hoyas (4-2) in the opening 17 minutes of play – tied 26-26 with 3:20 left in the first half – before the gap expanded to 38-27 after 20 minutes of play. UAA was down 22 with 7:22 left in the game, before bringing it within 14 for the final at 92-78.
Leading the Seawolf pack with a team-high 23 points was senior forward Kylie Burns, going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Alli Madison furnished 16 points, while Kiki Robertson contributed with 13. For Georgetown, two Hoyas posted a double-double – Andrea White (23 pts, 11 reb.) and Natalie Butler (18 pts, 21 reb.). White earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Player honor.
The Seawolves return to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex to host Montana State Billings (Dec. 5) for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener and Seattle Pacific (Dec. 7).
